Paasi Parupu Sambar (moong daal)

Paasi Parupu 1 cup
Red big onion 1
Green Chillies 5
Tomatoes big 2
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp [ as per you taste ]
Oil 1 tsp
cummin seeds 1 tsp
curry leaves and corriander leaves to Garnish
water
Garlic [ Optional ]
Method
Wash the moong dhaal or paasi parupu and set it aside to drain
In a sauce pan, add oil and fry the cumin seeds. Once you start to smell the cumin, add chopped onion and tomatoes. sprinkle some salt over it and cook covered.
After 5 mins add the green chillies [ Slit ], turmeric powder and let it cook for another 2 mins.
Add the dhaal or parupu and let it fry in the mixture for 2 mins.
Now add hot boiling water to the pan and let it cook covered in simmer for 10 mins. Do not peek often to check on it.
After 10 mins, you might have to add a little more water to dilute it and you can also check for salt. Usually this dish will be very bland if you do not season it properly.
let it simmer down for another 5 mins with the lid off. Garnish with fresh curry leaves and corriander.
Can be served with idly , dosai or chapati…..
PS: It is the best samabar for diabetes, Moong dhaal can be really filling. In case you usually eat 4 dosai’s with chutney, dosai with this samabar will fill you up easily.
