Aval Payasam / Poha Kheer Ingredients

Poha / Aval – 1 cup

Milk – 3 cups

Jaggery – 1/2 cup [ You can add more or less according  to your taste ]

A pinch of cardamom powder

Cashew nuts, a hand full

golden raisins 10

Method

Wash and drain Poha or Aval and set it aside.

Now boil the milk and let the bubble. Once you see that it is boiling add the jaggery and allow it to dissolve.

After 5 mins, add the poha/ aval and stir it well. Also add cashew, Raisins and Cardamom powder. Now turn off the stove and let it sit for 5 mins.. You will see that the poha / Aval would have doubled in quatity. Let it cool and serve.

This is a healthy form of desert for 2 reasons. Jaggery is better than refined sugar and also Poha / Aval has more fiber than any other form of payasam.

You can adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
